How you hold the light.

Tell me again slowly how you hold light easily
 when the storm seeps in.
Then take me into your grasp as well,
so that I may melt into you
like rain
when I am falling.

In the darkness with you.

I love Halloween.  Really, truly from my heart love it.  I was born on Halloween, 1982 (the Halloween Michael Jackson's Thriller came out), so it's a holiday that has always been mine, somehow.

Halloween, to me is harvest, magic, cider, darkness, heels, the moon, wolves, legends, candlelight, bare forests, candy, vampires, castles, red wine, black lace, midnight and pure fantasy.  It's growing a year older.  It's reflection, childhood memories, warmth, and more than anything... it's home.

I've posted a different version of this song before but I'm posting it again because I think it's brilliantly wistful and dreamlike. There is something about this band that takes you on a sort of swirling journey that is incredibly unique to her chilling voice and raw emotion, yet they still somehow seem within reach.

"I took the stars from my eyes and then I made a map
And knew that somehow I could find my way back
Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too
So I stayed in the darkness with you"

Night owl.

I'm up late listening to the quiet tranquility of the dark,
content in knowing I'm surrounded by moonlight,
serenity and empty streets just beyond my walls.
Night time is for thinking and floating and dreaming.
At night everything becomes more intense, and more true,
with the echo of the previous day's events bringing clarity.
I wake sometimes somewhere between midnight and dawn,
with a longing to write, to talk to those important to me
and to find balance, order and form
in the best way I know how.

One of my favorites.  Bon Iver and St. Vincent's Roslyn.
Close your eyes and float.

Infinity.

Hiiii. :)  So I'm currently sitting here finally on my bed with my scarf and jacket still on, chilly from the cold air, and anxiously awaiting my heater to warm my apartment so I can actually do anything else. Hellllllo end of October. :)

Things I am thankful for this very moment :  My sweet dog's welcoming greeting,  steaming hot tea,  the parking space right out front of my place tonight, Whole Foods staying open until 10:00, and melt in your mouth blondie brownies.  Not to mention the soft sheets, lavender walls,  steep hills, tree-lined streets, Victorian buildings, and stars above making up my world here and now.  Happy sigh.  It's a beautiful night indeed. <3

This song makes me feel as though I'm mentally flying, I will listen to it from the window seat of an airplane one of these days, and it's The XX, so not only is it sensual and eargasmic but incredibly calming. <3  Listen to it from beginning to end, enjoy the ride and have a wonderful sleep.

Mile after mile.

Hi guys.  I hope you're having a nice night.  :)  So let me start by asking if I'm supposed to be this wiped out after several music festivals at 27 years old?  I'm beginning to notice the difference in how long it takes to recover from dancing and walking for hours in the sun and it slightly bothers me.  Today I decided I wasn't having that and went to the gym determined to fit in both strength training and cardio, pushing my limits harder than the usual in some sort of quest for both the immediate rush of endorphins and physical fatigue so my normal energy levels will return (hopefully) as soon as possible.  I've also been the busiest I've ever been and trying to figure out how to stay on top of everything all at once, because right now.... it's a lot.  I know the majority of us all need more time to breathe, and I've been working on creating time to do so in my own life.  October is always a symphony of change in so many areas and although that's a great thing, it can also be quite exhausting. :)

I've been so, so happy with my new tunes lately and this band, The Black Keys are a new favorite after seeing them at ACL.  Their sound is rock n' roll mixed with melancholy blues, making me want to duck out of the cold, night air into a dark, smoky bar to sit on a stool, sip a dirty martini and let his deep, knowing voice seep in and warm my soul. No words spoken around us.  No thinking.  No doing.  Just this song rising with the moon, filling both myself and the strangers around me to the brim.  Not many bands make music like this anymore, and this is GOOD music.  Love them.  Enjoy, and goodnight. :)

"My gears they grind
More each day
And I feel like
They're gonna grind away

And the city blocks
They drive me wild
They're never ending
Mile after mile....

I just don't know what to do
I'm too afraid to love you.

It's heaven on earth
In her embrace
A gentle touch
And a smiling face

I'm just one wishing
That I was a pair
With someone
Oh somewhere

All those sleepless nights
And all those wasted days
I wish loneliness would leave me
But I think he's here to stay
What more can I do
I'm wringing myself dry
And I can't afford to lose
One more teardrop from my eye

Don't know what to do....
I'm too afraid to love you."

Always be simple.

'"It’s very simple; it’s not complicated. If you want to go home and complicate it with the mind and say, “Oh I can’t do this,” then you’ll never do it. But if you simply accept the truth and do, then it will come very quickly. Don’t let the mind complicate your life; always be simple."
-Swami Sai Premananda

"Dont you know that I'll be around to guide you
Through your weakest moments to leave them behind you
Returning nightmares only shadows
We'll cast some light and you'll be alright for now
Crosses all over, heavy on your shoulders
The sirens inside you waiting to step forward
Disturbing silence darkens your sight
We'll cast some light and you'll be alright for now ."

Sweet dreams. :)

We make it harder than it has to be.

I know, I know.  I haven't been blogging. Things have been crazy and wonderful.  I just returned from possibly one of the most amazing weekends of my life given it was filled to the brim with family and live music.  It's almost as though someone looked through my Itunes, picked my favorite bands (both new and old) and rolled them into one fantastic schedule, then sprinkled them over an enormous park filled with 80,000 other music lovers in one creative, vibrant and authentic city where everyone had their heart in the right place.

I love Austin, Texas, I love blues rock, I love my family, and I love this timeless band:  The Eagles. When The Eagles played on the third night, I was with my folks- dancing, singing, and fully noticing the simple moment of "unparalleled perfection", when everything in the universe seemed to be in alignment, and all I could really do.... was smile.  It all seemed so easy and.... so right.

"Look at us baby
Up all night
Tearing our love apart
Aren't we the same two people who live
through years in the dark?
Every time I try to walk away
Something makes me turn around and stay
And I can't tell you why

When we get crazy,
it just ain't to right,
(try to keep you head, little girl)
Girl, I get lonely, too
You don't have to worry
Just hold on tight
(don't get caught in your little world)
'Cause I love you
Nothing's wrong as far as I can see
We make it harder than it has to be
and I can't tell you why "
